Questions about the boat
How many people can go on the boat?
The Querida Del Mar is a 46 foot Post. This luxury boat is licensed for up to 15 people. It has an air conditioned salon CD sound system and DVD player and a flat screen television. Also a full master suite with queen size bed if you get tired.
Do you have English speaking captains?
Our captains and crew speak at least “fishing English.” The language will not be a problem.
Does the boat have a bathroom on board?
Yes and a bedroom and a shower.
Do I need to bring anything?
As far as fishing tackle is concerned you do not need to bring anything. We provide all tackle needed.
We do recommend you bring a light jacket during the winter.
Food is also provided on the 8 hour trip, but you may want to bring your favorite snacks or "raid" your hotels all inclusive snack bar.
Will I get seasick?
Seasickness depends on the individual and the conditions of the sea the day you go fishing. We recommend that if you do not know if you get seasick that you take a commercial motion sickness medication or use the wrist bands or patches that go behind the ear. Why take a chance?
By the way ginger pill from the local health food store are great for seasickness.

Questions about the fishing
What can we expect to catch?
You will catch Grunts, Grouper and Snapper. Sometimes a shark will be taken too.
Most of the fish will be in the 1 to 8 lb. range.
Do you do trolling or bottom fishing?
For the night fishing we always do bottom fishing.
How do find the fish?
We have excellent fish and depth finding equipment on the boat. We WILL put you on the fish - you catching them may be another story.
How much travel time, non-fishing time, is there?
The fishing grounds are about 35 to 45 minutes from the dock.
How is the time calculated on a 4, 6, 8 hour trip?
The hours of your fishing trip are calculated from “dock to dock” – Not from pickup at your hotel. In other words a 4 hour trip is “4 hours from the time you leave the dock until you return to the dock” - Same for the 6 and 8 hour trip. Travel time to the fishing grounds is part of your “trip time.”
What kind of bait do you use?
We use mullet, sardines squid and small bait fish we catch on the trip. We may vary the baits depending on the baits available at the particular time of year you go.
Do you catch and release?
Fish which are not edible are released. Eatable fish are kept and available for you to take filets back to your hotel.
Should I tip at the end of the fishing trip?
Generally a 10% to 15% tip is given if the crew did a good job for you.

Questions about the fish we catch
What happens to the fish we catch?
Edible fish are put in the cooler and can be part of your “tip” for the crew or the crew will gladly filet them for you. Then you take your catch to your favorite Cancun restaurant for that evening’s dinner.
We strongly recommend that you take some fish filets and go to a local restaurant for dinner. The concierge in your hotel can make restaurant recommendations, the crew at the dock can make recommendations or call us here at 887-8069 and we will make recommendations. One fun thing to do is to eat your fresh catch. We also recommend that you have the restaurant prepare you catch 3 different ways. Then you decide which is your favorite. By the way, your meal will cost about $10-$12 USD per person with all the side dishes when you bring the fish.
What are the best fish to take to eat?
The best fish for your dinner will be Grunts, Snapper, and Grouper. Any of these will make for an unforgettable dinner.
Can I take fish back to the U.S. in an ice chest?
You can but we do not recommend it. Since security has been tightened at all airports worldwide we do not recommend you try to take edible fish back to the U.S. First the airlines no longer accept Styrofoam ice chest, and securing dry ice in Cancun will cost you more time and effort than it is worth. Then you will have delays on arrival in the U.S. while your baggage is checked.
